Marisha Burden, MD, FACP, SFHM is the Division Head of Hospital Medicine and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Burden completed her undergraduate work at the University of Oklahoma and earned her medical degree at the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine graduating with the honor of Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed her residency at the University of Colorado in the hospitalist training track. Dr. Burden’s interests include hospital systems improvement, which includes patient experience, patient flow, quality, and transitions of care and workforce related issues. She is also very interested in promoting gender equity and is a member of the Department of Medicine Program to Advance Gender Equity and the AAMC Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) Equity in Recruitment Task Force. Dr. Burden is a member of the Society of General Internal Medicine, the Association of Chiefs and Leaders of General Internal Medicine. She is also an active member of the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) and is a Senior Fellow of Hospital Medicine. She currently serves on the SHM Research Committee and is Executive Co-Chair for the Diversity and Inclusion Interest group. Dr. Burden speaks nationally on the topics of hospital systems improvements, clinical operations, and diversity and equity. She has given multiple talks or workshops at the SHM national conference.
Mark Kissler, MS, MD

Mark Kissler, M.S., M.D., is an instructor of hospital medicine at the University of Colorado. He is a graduate of Columbia University’s Narrative Medicine program and earned his M.D. at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed residency in combined internal medicine and pediatrics at CU. He also teaches medical humanities at the University of Colorado Boulder campus. He lives in Aurora with his wife and three children.
